About Us

My name is Amy Barnes and I am a very proud mom.  My daughter Mia teaches me a lot about life just by being who she is: a really cool kid who goes with the flow and lives life to the fullest.  It's my job as her mother to remind her she can do anything she wants if she sets her mind to it. I work to give her opportunities to challenge herself and remind her to be who she is because she's a true original--like everyone else in the world--with unique gifts to be developed and shared.

I started working on developing HKT when Mia was in elementary school because of a huge social gap between the kids with and without disabilities. This hurt my heart as a mom so this project was created to help bridge that gap through the arts and culture.  As Mia developed into an adolescent, we added active living to this because staying active is the key to being able to do many other things in life too.

We hope to see you out and about somewhere along the way!
